SNP leader Alex Salmond has said that over the next 10 years, if one of the three major parties is elected, there will be "public spending cuts and reductions the like of which we have never seen in this country".

He suggests that spending needs to be cut by £250bn in the UK over that period, and believes big ticket items such as the Trident defence system should be scrapped.

He was speaking to Richard Bacon in one of a series of interviews for BBC Three with the three main party, SNP and Plaid Cymru leaders.
