Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Conservative leader David Cameron have clashed on the issue of free eye tests, during a heated exchange in the TV prime ministerial debate.

The Conservative leader accused the PM of spreading "lies" about Conservative policies.

He called on Gordon Brown to withdraw leaflets claiming the Conservatives would scrap free bus passes for pensioners, saying Mr Brown "really should be ashamed of doing that".

Gordon Brown challenged David Cameron on whether his party had a manifesto commitment of free eye tests for the elderly.

David Cameron pledged on-air that his party would make the commitment.
