Darling announces stamp duty change in Budget

First-time home buyers will pay no stamp duty on properties worth up to £250,000.

Chancellor Alistair Darling made the announcement during his Budget statement in the Commons.

The move will be paid for by an increase in stamp duty to 5% for properties worth more than a million pounds.
