Tories: Brown Afghan visit 'distraction' from Iraq row

The prime minister has visited British troops in Afghanistan as a row grows over his evidence to the Iraq inquiry.

The Conservatives say it is a cynical attempt to divert attention from criticism from two former Army chiefs that as chancellor he denied pleas to send more equipment to Iraq.

Shadow defence secretary Liam Fox accused the prime minister of using the armed forces as "political props".
