Patricia Hewitt suggests Gordon Brown leadership ballot

Patricia Hewitt and Geoff Hoon are calling for a secret ballot on Gordon Brown's leadership, only months before a general election must be called.

They have written to Labour MPs saying the issue must be sorted out "once and for all".

Ms Hewitt said she wanted a ballot where MPs would all get behind the result.
