A former Chief of the Defence Staff, Lord Guthrie, has strongly attacked government policy on Afghanistan.
Lord Guthrie, who was head of the armed forces between 1997 and 2001, said there was a clear need for more helicopters.
During a House of Lords debate, he insisted that some of the lives lost in Afghanistan could have been saved if more had been available.
