Gordon Brown is expected to defend the UK's policy of mentoring Afghan security forces in a speech on Friday.

The announcement comes days after five British troops were killed by an Afghan police officer they had been training.

Mr Brown is also expected to say Afghan President Hamid Karzai must make progress on security and fighting corruption if he wants continued international support.

Naomi Grimley reports.
