The Record Review

Although Sir Christopher Kelly's report on MPs expenses will not be published until next week, rumours of a ban on MPs employing members of their family have spread throughout Westminster.

Many MPs currently employ relatives as secretaries or office assistants, and their wages are paid out of public money.

If Sir Christopher does recommend a ban, many family members who have worked for MPs for many years may lose their jobs.

Reform for the Lord Speaker?

Unlike the Speaker in the House of Commons, the Lord Speaker is not responsible for keeping order in the House of Lords.

Instead the upper house regulates itself.

But there have been calls for this to change and the former Labour MP Lord Campbell-Savours has written to every peer asking if they think the role should be reformed.

The Record Review's Edwin Wills asks Lord Campbell-Savours what is wrong with current role of the Lords Speaker.
