BNP to consider non-white members

The British National Party has said it will amend its constitution so its rules on membership do not discriminate on the grounds of race or religion.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission had taken the party to county court arguing that its membership criteria were restrictive to those within certain ethnic groups.

The court heard that the BNP leader, Nick Griffin, had agreed to present party members with a revised constitution at its general meeting next month.

John Wadham of the Equality and Human Rights Commission said he was pleased with the decision.
