The Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Vince Cable has called for politicians to stop arguing about "generalities" on spending cuts and set out their proposals.

He said it was important to "keep frontline services that matter and cut out low priority activities".

Mr Cable said cuts would be needed in many areas of public spending and no budgets should be "ring-fenced".
