The Conservative leader David Cameron has insisted his party is four square behind the NHS after one of his MEPs attacked the health service on American Television.

MEP Daniel Hannan told TV viewers he "wouldn't wish it on anybody". Mr Cameron has dismissed the views as eccentric and insists the Conservatives are the party of the NHS.

However, the health secretary, Andy Burnham, has described the comments made by Mr Hannan as David Cameron's worst nightmare. The row was opened by the debate over health care reforms in America.

Laura Kuenssberg reports.
