Gordon Brown has said he has "faith" in himself and the new cabinet he has assembled and he "will not walk away from my responsibilities when the going gets tough".
He told a news conference at Downing Street that it had been a tough night, but "if I didn't think I was the right person, leading the right team, I would not be standing here."
