Lord Carey attacks expenses claims

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey, has issued a strongly-worded attack on the way MPs have claimed expenses.

Writing in the News of the World, Lord Carey called it ''a scandalous affair''.

He said the discredited expenses system had damaged the standing of politicians in the eyes of the public.
