Prime minister's questions

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has accused the government of having "no principles or courage" over plans to restrict the number of Gurkha veterans who will be allowed to settle in the UK.

But Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who said he was "determined to honour the service that the Gurkhas give", told MPs that immigration policy should be based on "decisions that we can afford".

Opposition leader David Cameron said recent changes to the settlement rules were "too restrictive" and did not honour the UK's obligation to the soldiers or command public support.
