The Prime Minister has defended the government's handling of the troubled Dunfermline Building Society.
The Nationwide has confirmed it will buy the Dunfermline's branches, good loans and deposits after it incurred losses of £26m.
At a press conference with the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, Gordon Brown said the mutual had been "the author of its own mistakes".
