Gordon Brown has begun a three-day tour of England and Wales starting with a visit to Rolls Royce in Derby.
In Derby, the Prime Minister announced a �140 million scheme to create 35,000 new apprenticeships to help enhance the skills base of the UK's workforce.
Speaking earlier on a train, Mr Brown talked about what the government is doing to cope with the global downturn.
