People made redundant will be able to defer mortgage interest payments for up to two years, Gordon Brown has said.

The plan is designed to give those who lose their jobs or take a big cut in their income an extended breathing space before losing their home as well.

The Prime Minister made the announcement during a Commons debate on the Queen's speech.
