Note: International Labour Organisation (ILO) unemployment is a count of jobless people who want to work, are available to work, and are actively seeking employment. It is based on data from the UK's Labour Force Survey.
Claimant count measures only those unemployed people are claiming unemployment-related benefits (Jobseeker's Allowance).
However, Labour Force Survey data is generally only available back to 1979. The figures shown are the Office for National Statistics' best estimate of headline LFS unemployment rates over the period shown.
