Other recent suspensions include: October 1999 Kali Mountford (Lab, Colne Valley) Suspended for five sitting days, for leaking a select committee report to Don Touhig, the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown's parliamentary private secretary. Don Touhig (Lab, Islwyn) Suspended for three sitting days, for accepting and passing on the leaked select committee report. July 1999 Ernie Ross (Lab, Dundee West) Suspended for 10 sitting days for leaking a select committee report the "arms to Africa affair" to Foreign Secretary Robin Cook. June 1997 Robert Wareing (Lab, Liverpool West Derby) Suspended for five sitting days, for failing to declare an interest in the Register of Members' Interests. April 1995 Graham Riddick (Con, Colne Valley) Suspended for 10 sitting days, for accepting �1,000 to table a parliamentary question (from a journalist) - although he had second thoughts and later returned the money. David Tredinnick (Con, Bosworth) Suspended for 20 sitting days, for accepting �1,000 to table a parliamentary question (from a journalist) saying he was surprised to receive it and intended to donate the money to charity. November 1993 Ian Paisley (DUP, Antrim North) Suspended for five sitting days, after accusing the then Northern Ireland Secretary, Sir Patrick Mayhew, of lying about government contact with the IRA. July 1990 Dick Douglas (Lab, Dunfermline West) Suspended for five sitting days (though on full pay) for attempting to protest to the speaker over a statement from the education secretary on teachers' pay. March 1990 John Browne (Con, Winchester) Suspended for 20 sitting days, for failing to declare an interest in the Register of Members' Interests. July 1989 Tam Dalyell (Lab, Linlithgow) Suspended for five sitting days, for refusing to withdraw an allegation that the prime minister had lied to the House of Commons. |
