Immigration service
The UK is experiencing a higher level of immigration
The number of people thought to be migrating to the UK rose to 512,600 in 2003 compared with 328,400 in 1991.

The Office of National Statistics figures are based mainly on data from the international passenger survey and 2003 is the latest date available.

They show migrancy briefly dropping off in the early 1990s.

The figures follow a report this month that suggested Britain has been the top destination for migrants from the 10 new EU states since expansion.
