Shaun Brady's backers are calling for his reinstatement |
A showdown is on the cards at the annual conference of the train drivers union Aslef next week because two sacked leaders are planning to attend. Shaun Brady, the former general secretary, and his deputy Micky Blackburn were dismissed following a fight at a private barbecue.
Supporters are expected to put forward emergency resolutions calling for the men to be reinstated.
However other delegates will back the present leadership.
The conference has already been postponed because of series of investigations into the conduct of the two men.
Mr Brady was sacked for "gross misconduct" related to his failure to co-operate with an independent investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
It followed a fracas at a barbecue held at the union's head office in north London, which resulted in president Martin Samways' resignation.
Further clashes
But matters have not been settled, reports labour affairs correspondent Stephen Cape.
Another motion by their supporters is expected to demand the sacking of the union's executive or at least their suspension.
Mr Brady and Mr Blackburn have not had their final appeal hearings over the decision to dismiss them, and the issue may be used to stop further discussion.
The two factions are also expected to fight over who should chair this year's conference .
That person will have the power to rule any emergency resolutions out of order, thereby scuppering any possibility of a come back.
