Mark Mardell's article asking whether Tony Blair has signed up to the view of the world promoted by US "neo-conservatives" like Donald Rumsfeld provoked a huge response. Here is a selection of views.
"Instinctive" Labour supporters such as myself feel very badly let-down - most of my friends feel even more strongly than I do!
Dr.R.W.Richards, UK New Labour is just a bunch of middle class kids playing at being working class and being patronised by the upper class. It's bringing the worst of all the classes together into one, over-powerful mess.

 | Blair may not really be a neo-con ... but you know the old saying "if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck"... |
There have been two Prime Ministers since WW2 called Anthony. The first, Eden fell due to a then internationally-minded US ending his imperial venture in Suez. The second, Blair, is in danger of falling from grace at the world's revulsion over the USA's neo-imperial ventures. He might not realise it, but he has signed up to the neo-conservative agenda.
Dr David Lloyd Owen, Wales Tony Blair is actually an icon for caving in to American demands. Only once he has been replaced will the UK be able to begin rebuilding its relationship with Europe and the rest of the world. No self-respecting politician in "old" Europe will want to be associated with him now.

Tony Blair is doing what he believes is right, nothing more, nothing less.

Blair and Bush: Two views collide? |
Sadly Tony has turned us into Dubya's cannon fodder. American politicians follow the creed "We have no friends, only interests" They take or sell, they NEVER give. Regardless of what Alastair Campbell (He who must be obeyed) says, Tony Blair does exactly what GWB and his crew say. Remember - they bought Florida to win the election in order to achieve their political aims. I Fear for the ORDINARY people of this country and USA
Alan, UK I prefer to think of Mr Blair as Faux-Labour. Or is it Non-Labour. Or is he a Republican in bad clothes?
Kate Alley, UK
New Labour's been the best Tory Government we've had in decades. End of story!
BT, UK
Finally, the real issue behind this atrocity is being addressed! Took a while, but well done Mark Mardell! The Project for the New American Century is nothing I want my PM having any association with, in whatever sense.

Mr. Blair long ago stopped being a socialist. His policies and ideas become more and more conservative. He basically betrayed the Labour movement and should do the Tories a favour by becoming their leader. Yes, he is a conservative, and probably supports the US reactionary view of the world, obeying his master's voice as any trustworthy canine companion would do.
Angela Smith, UK
I think Blair HAS signed up to the neo-conservative view by agreeing with the importance of removing Saddam Hussein. When this neo-conservative thinking is extended to dealing with Syria, Iran and North Korea, Tony Blair will regret his shoulder-to-shoulder stance, unable to remove his support from the Bush Administration agreeing in private that the American government is pursuing an agressive policy.

 | What's neo-Conservative other than a fancy name for New Tory? |
Can there really be any doubt about this.I believe the saying is 'By their friends shall you know them'.Blairs allies now are Bush,Aznar and Berlusconi, extreme right-wingers, surely that says it all.
Nigel Meyer, uk
So what's so amazing about that? We've known Blair was a New Tory since he lied his way into power. What's neo-Conservative other than a fancy name for New Tory?
John Rogers, UK
I guess its true that he's become a real neo-conservative. If he isn't, why does he agree with allmost everything Bush and his conservative friends think? Its the only way to be a good friend of the United States of Aggression, if you're not with them, you're against! Blair don't wanna loose friends!

 | Whatever anyone thinks of Tony Blair, in this instance, I believe he is trying to fulfil a moral obligation to the people of Iraq. |
Commentators miss the point about Blair - it's not that he is blindly following neo-conservatives. Rather he is using them to support his own interventionist beliefs. Poodle indeed! Anyway the Neo-conservative argument as espoused by the American intellectual right is coherent and consistent. Certainly there is little in the left's arguments that can refute them with any force.
Michael, N Ireland
Tony Blair is, like George W, a particularly dangerous type of fundamentalist christian neo-conversative. They seem to believe that they are doing 'God's work' and live in a world of easily defineable diametrically opposed concepts - good versus evil, right versus wrong, western/northern civilisation versus eastern/southern barbarity and brutality. Political neo-conservatism, with its economic twin neo-liberalism or market fundamentalism, is dangerous and must be stopped.
Matthew Heard, UK
I think that Tony Blair is a perfect candidate for leadership of the Conservative party, he could lead them out of the doldrums whilst allowing Gordon Brown to take over as a true Labour leader with traditional high-taxing principles.
Kiran, UK
Whatever anyone thinks of Tony Blair, in this instance, I believe he is trying to fulfil a moral obligation to the people of Iraq. The vehicle he has chosen is a strong political and military alliance with the United States. In this instance if that is signing up to a neo-conservative view then so be it. Which is worse villainy and thuggery against a subjugated people by Saddam Hussein or the alliance with the US?
