Date of birth 26 September 1951 Political profile First elected in 1992, Elfyn Llwyd has, like most Plaid Cymru MPs, has been a party spokesman on many issues. In 1999, he became the leader of the Plaid Cymru Parliamentary Party as, at the time, the only PC MP not also to be a member of the Welsh Assembly. He is a good humoured and intelligent speaker, who has become notably more party political since taking on the parliamentary leadership. In addition to a commitment to Plaid's aims for greater devolution for Wales, Mr Llwyd is particular advocate of greater recognition of and support for the Welsh language. A lawyer by profession, he is also a keen social reformer and moderniser and an anti-nuclear campaigner.
