David Hanson was a minister in the Welsh Office until 2001, when he took a pay cut to receive an arguably more prestigious job; he is currently parliamentary private secretary to the prime minister, responsible for keeping him up to date with backbench opinion.

A former charity director, he had a long career in local government work, and has been particularly prominent in his work opposing drug abuse.

He has taken his constituency very much to heart, and is a hard working local MP.
