75 jobs are being lost with the company's closure |
Seventy-five jobs have been lost with the closure of one of County Donegal's biggest building firms. The Ballyshannon company James Likely has gone into liquidation with immediate effect. The firm's 75 staff will be directly affected, but a number of sub contractors will also be badly hit. Company director James Likely assured workers the liquidator would "address their entitlements" over the next few weeks. Mr Likely cited his firm's proximity to the border as one reason why it had been struggling. However, the credit crunch and a change in how some government contracts are awarded were given as the main reasons though why the company had gone into liquidation. A spokesman for Mary Coughlan, who is the local TD and the Irish deputy prime minister, said it had been an extremely difficult day for the employees and the Likely family who had built up a "well-known and highly regarded brand".
