Cars stuck on snowy mountain road

The B27 road between Hilltown and Kilkeel has been closed due to the snow

Motorists have become stuck in the snow on a mountain road in County Down after ignoring 'Road Closed' signs, the Roads Service has said.

The B27 Hilltown to Kilkeel road which runs past Spelga Dam has been closed to all traffic due to snow restricting the road width.

However, some motorists have attempted to brave the drive and become trapped.

The Roads Service has said this is further delaying attempts to clear the carriageway.

Conditions on the Dundrod motorbike circuit between Wheelers Bend and the Hair Pin bend were also described as "treacherous" due to ice and motorists were warned to take extreme care.
