Shaun Woodward
Shaun Woodward wrote to an assembly committee

The Secretary of State has confirmed that the cost of public inquiries will not pass to Stormont following the devolution of policing and justice.

Inquiries into controversial killings in Northern Ireland have run up huge legal bills.

Shaun Woodward outlined the government's position in a letter to the assembly review committee.

The review committee is expected to meet Justice Secretary Jack Straw in London next month.

There is still no date for the devolution of policing and justice.
