Telecoms company creating 30 jobs

Irish telecoms company, Eircom, has said it will create another 30 jobs in Northern Ireland.

They will be based at the firm's new offices in Belfast, and will double Eircom's workforce in the city.

The company's general manager Darren Lemon said the jobs were "high value, graduate level" posts.

The company plans to shed more than 1,000 jobs in the Republic over the next 18 months as part of a radical cost-saving plan.

Its major customers in Northern Ireland include the civil service and NI Water.

Stormont Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster welcomed the £8.5m investment when she opened the offices on Thursday.

The minister said: "It is particularly good news, in these challenging economic times, that Eircom has plans for a further £1.5m investment over the next 12 months in Northern Ireland, bringing the company's investment here to over £10m."
