Tackling the issue of racism
Joan Harbinson: New report highlights progress
Joan Harbinson: New report highlights progress
Ways to tackle racism in Northern Ireland are the subject of a new report.

The report, entitled Agenda for Action, is to be released on Tuesday.

It shows how progress has already been made in helping minority groups overcome racial discrimination.

These groups include the Chinese community and travellers in the Republic of Ireland.

Joan Harbinson, of the Northern Ireland Equality Commission, said she believed that victims of racism were now more confident about coming forward to complain.

She said: "There is much more confidence in the people from minority ethnic groups now about their rights and about asking people to respond to their particular needs.

"And also, in fact, in complaining about racism and harassment and bullying when that occurs."
