Sherelle Duke was killed when her horse toppled on top of her |
The funeral of Sherelle Duke, one of Northern Ireland's leading equestrian riders, has taken place. The 28-year-old from Portadown died on Sunday when her horse fell on her at a cross-country event in Southampton.
Her boyfriend, Ross McCandless, told mourners at Portadown Baptist Church on Friday of his "undying love" for her.
He said of the former World Young Rider Champion: "You are my reason for being, you inspired my every move, and I thank you for all the opportunities."
Miss Duke was a member of the Irish equestrian team in the 2003 European Championships.
'Bubbly personality'
A rider's hat was on top of the coffin as it was brought into the church by mourners.
Pastor Clifford Morrison told mourners that Sherelle "had an energetic, bubbly personality".
"Her focus and her drive to achieve her ambitions was an inspiration to all," he said.
Her family is well-known in the Portadown area and in the business world after setting up the Dukes Transport Company.
For years she rode in the company's colours of red and white.
