Number caught drug driving rises
There has been a rise in the number of people caught driving under the influence of drugs in Northern Ireland.

A total of 113 people were caught in the first nine months of 2005, compared to 92 for the same period last year - a rise of almost 20%.

Superintendent Brian Kee said police are aiming a new campaign at students to highlight the problem.

He said 19 universities and colleges have been chosen as sites for posters highlighting the issue.

"The dangers of drug driving are being highlighted direct to students across Northern Ireland," Mr Kee said.

"The dangers posed by drink drivers are well-known, but we're determined to increase the pressure on drug driving as well.

"I would highlight that those convicted of a drug driving offence face the same penalties as that for drink driving."

The campaign to raise awareness of the problem is being run by the police and Department of Environment.
