Classroom assistants are taking strike action
Classroom assistants at a special school in Dundonald are to go on strike in protest at pay and conditions.

All 32 assistants at Tor Bank Special School are expected to walk out on Friday.

Brian Campfield of NIPSA said the strike was necessary to force the education boards to change their job evaluations of classroom assistants.

Mr Campfield said members of his union decided there should be an ongoing series of industrial actions.

He said this was "in order to force the boards to progress at a proper rate the job evaluation of classroom assistants".

"The strike this Friday at Tor Bank is the first in a series of actions to achieve that," he said.

The principal of Tor Bank, Colm Davis, is the new president of the National Association of Head Teachers.

On Monday, at the head teachers' annual conference in Limavady, he said a lack of resources made it very difficult for schools to meet children's needs, particularly those with special needs.
