The attack occurred in Ballymena, Co Antrim when two masked men confronted the taxi driver as he returned to his home from work at 5am on Sunday morning. During the incident, the taxi driver was beaten with a wooden club and suffered a serious head injury and bruising to his body. Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident. Men recover following knife attack Two men are recovering from injuries sustained in a stabbing incident on Saturday. The men were attacked in Newry shortly after 1pm while walking along Monaghan Street in the town centre. One of the men is described as being ill but stable in hospital and the other is said to be stable. Both men are in their 20s. Alert forces prison visits cancellation All visits at a prison in Northern Ireland were cancelled on Saturday afternoon due to a security alert. The visits to Maghaberry Prison were called off following an anonymous call. A search is being carried out at the jail but nothing was found. The authorities said they hoped the prison would be back to normal on Sunday. Police rescue man from fire Police officers rescued a man from a fire in his home in Londonderry on Saturday morning. The alarm was raised when a neighbour noticed the blaze at the house at Clearwater Way, in the Clooney area of the city shortly before 3am. Two police officers forced their way into the house and brought the man, who is in his 20s, to safety. He has been treated for the effects of smoke inhalation. Two appear on drugs charges A 41-year-old man has appeared in a court in Belfast following the discovery of drugs with a street value of �12,000. Gerard O'Neill from Angus Street in Antrim was charged with the possession of drugs with the intent to supply following the discovery. He was remanded in custody to appear in court again later in September. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was due to appear in court in Dungannon following the discovery of cannabis and other drugs in Caledon, Co Tyrone on Friday night.
