Orangemen 'may face prosecution'

Orangemen who took part in an illegal parade in Belfast may face prosecution.

They marched into the city centre to commemorate two Ulster Defence Regiment soldiers who were murdered in the 1980s.

The police said those taking part were given two warnings and the matter would be forwarded to the DPP.

A small group of people mounted a protest as Saturday's parade passed the mainly nationalist Short Strand area in east Belfast.

However, it passed off peacefully.

The Parades Commission had said the application form for the march had been "incomplete and therefore unacceptable."

The PSNI said the parade organisers had been given two warnings that it was illegal.

"Evidence was gathered and the matter will be forwarded to the DPP," said a police spokesman.
