The mini motorbike lies in the road after the crash |
A four-year-old boy has died following a road accident in west Belfast. David Spence from the Shankill estate was a passenger on a mini-scrambler motorbike which was being ridden by an adult.
The crash happened at the junction of Berlin Street and Riga Street in the Shankill Road area of the city.
Ulster Unionist councillor Chris McGimpsey said: "This is a terrible accident which has left this community in a state of shock."
The accident happened at about 1130 GMT on Thursday.
Brian Kingston from the Shankill Mirror newspaper said it was not the first time he had seen children being driven on such vehicles.
"There is the potential for this sort of tragedy to happen again, with the use of various types of motorised vehicle," he told BBC Radio Ulster.
"You get scramblers or quad bikes or motorised scooters, and you would get several people riding on them at times.
"I have seen cases where parents would collect children from school on a quad bike. One or two kids would jump on a quad bike. It's an ongoing problem these being used recklessly and dangerously."
