Politician's suspect package hoax
Police tape
A suspicious package found on the windscreen of an SDLP assembly member's car has been declared a hoax.

West Tyrone MLA Eugene McMenamin's wife had noticed the package as she was about to get into the vehicle, which was parked in Strabane.

Army bomb experts were called to the scene and the Abercorn Square area was cordoned off by police.

Mr McMenamin said such attacks were increasingly common.

"This has been an ongoing campaign for the last few years, ever since the SDLP joined up to District Policing Partnerships," he said.

On Tuesday, four hoax devices addressed to district policing partnership members, including Mr McMenamin, were intercepted at the Royal Mail sorting office in Mallusk.
