A visit to the Clanabogan Santa House in County Tyrone has become an annual feature for thousands each Christmas.

Santa House creator John Hutchinson transforms his home into a spectacular grotto every December and visitors travel from miles around.

Entrance to the grotto is free but donations for charitable causes are gratefully received.

Over the six years that he has been running the Santa House, Mr Hutchison has raised almost 20,000 for charity.

Expensive business

Inside the magical winter wonderland, visitors are treated to a light display and a Christmas video, as well as a special visit from Father Christmas himself.

Mr Hutchinson said: "They are coming from Counties Monaghan, Derry, a lot from Fermanagh. They are coming from Cavan and from all over.

"They enjoy it. There is nobody comes out without a smile on their face."

The idea was sparked when a friend died from cancer and all the proceeds go to charities fighting the disease.

However, Mr Hutchinson admits that his Christmas lights show is an expensive business.

He said: "The electricity bill is enormous but without doubt it is well worth it.

"I stand in behind and I watch the show myself. I get a bigger kick than the youngsters, to be quite honest.

"I'm looking forward to next year. I'm going to change the whole thing. As soon as Christmas is over, I'm going to take it down and start on next Christmas."
