Travellers 'need better support'
The report calls for more support for the travelling community
Members of the travelling community must be given the opportunity to shape their own future in society in Northern Ireland, according to a report.

Research carried out with the support of local traveller support groups shows that most of the network is run by people from the settled community.

Jim Glackin, chair of the traveller movement, said it was something he wants to see changed.

"There should be government support for traveller organisations," he said.

"The government are asking traveller organisations what are the needs of traveller organisations but they are not fully supporting those in terms of funding.

"We need core funding for a number of traveller organisations across Northern Ireland so that we can develop a strong traveller community who can represent themselves."
