Appeals ahead of parades
Orangemen
The delegation met police to discuss safety measures
A delegation of DUP politicians and community representatives has met police to discuss safety measures along the routes of two Protestant Orange Order parades.

There have been appeals for calm ahead of the Tour of the North and Whiterock parades in Belfast.

The marches have proved to be controversial in the past, as the routes pass along sensitive interface areas between loyalist and nationalist communities.

The Tour of the North parade takes place on Friday, while the Whiterock parade is planned for 26 June.

West Belfast DUP assembly member Diane Dodds said on Thursday that she was hopeful the parades would pass off peacefully.

"There has been a lot of contact and work done with the communities," she said.

"The chief superintendent for north Belfast has assured us of that ahead of the Tour of the North on Friday.

"There are still some things to be thrashed out ahead of the Whiterock parade, but I am hopeful that it will go quietly."
