An elderly woman has been killed in a car crash in County Tyrone.

She was in a car that was in collision with another vehicle on the Carland Road in Dungannon.

The victim, in her 80s, was a passenger in a car driven by her brother, who is in his 70s.

Two other people have been taken to hospital following the crash, which took place at about 1700 BST.

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Forensics experts worked for a number of hours on the Carland Road near Dungannon to try to establish what caused the crash.

Inspector Alywin Barton said: "Both drivers of the vehicles sustained minor injuries.

"The driver of the Honda Civic was a gentleman in his late 70s and his passenger was his sister - a lady in her 80s.

"Unfortunately, she was killed. Paramedics did convey her to Craigavon Area Hospital, however, she was dead on arrival. Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time."

It is understood the deceased woman's family is from Cookstown.

The driver of the other car is in her early seventies and from Dungannon.
