Four of the seven managed to meet for a final training run

The Florida-James family from Limavady, County Londonderry, were attempting to become the biggest group of siblings to finish the 26 mile trek on Sunday.

Peter, Michael, Christopher, Mark, Geraint, Barry and Gareth lined out on Sunday to raise money for the Children with Leukemia charity.

Six of the brothers completed the course - but Gareth, a physiotherapist, was forced to pull out of the race after 15 miles due to a hip injury.

The previous record for a multiple sibling team was 6 brothers completing the course.

Peter, who is a doctor based in Slough, said they faced some stiff competition.

He said the brothers had put in considerable training before the event.

Speaking before the race, he said: "There is a 10 year span between us and we have all run in our youth. Indeed many of us orienteered for Northern Ireland when we were younger.

"A couple of us have kept it going as we have aged but some of the others haven't put their running shoes on for many a year and they have had to get in shape rather quickly.

"But I think they've all felt better for doing it.

"We had a few niggles and injuries early on but they seem to have passed and apart from the passing of time and the aching knees and hips we are all doing alright at the minute."
