DUP suspends councillor
Mr Templeton will have a party hearing over Easter
The Democratic Unionist Party has suspended a councillor who was found guilty of harassing a gay candidate during local government electioneering.

Newtownabbey councillor Arthur Templeton was fined 250 at Belfast Magistrates Court last week after being convicted of harassing fellow District Policing Partnership member John Blair.

A DUP spokesman said he would be given a hearing with the party officers over Easter.

However, he said the party would not tolerate behaviour of the type of which Mr Templeton had been convicted.

"The Democratic Unionist Party condemns the harassment of anyone in any way whatsoever," said the spokesman.

"In the instance of Mr Templeton, the DUP will not be making any comment on the specifics of the case until all possible legal proceedings have run their course.

"Should it ultimately be held that Mr Templeton is guilty, the party officers will take action."
