The survey found some motorists were still prepared to drink-drive
One in four motorists breaks the speed limit while disregarding the type of road they are driving on, according to a survey.

In the greater Belfast area alone, police caught 519 motorists committing a variety of road traffic offences last Friday and Saturday nights.

The Northern Ireland Road Safety Monitor's report, released on Tuesday, found that 63% of respondents thought they were likely to be caught speeding by cameras.

The survey also found that some drivers were still prepared to drive after drinking alcohol.

More than a third said they would drive after one drink; almost a fifth said they would drive after two, while 7% said they were likely to drive after three or more drinks.

More than 140 people have been killed in road accidents in the province so far this year.

Police said they would be keeping a close watch on the roads in the period up to Christmas and beyond.

Their campaign, known as Operation Viper, aims to cut road deaths and serious injuries on the roads.
