Fountain Estate Londonderry
Two petrol bombs caused scorch damage to the house
A family whose home has been attacked with petrol bombs in Londonderry has said they will not be driven out of the area.

Two devices damaged a wall of the house in the loyalist Fountain Estate.

They were thrown from the nearby Bishop Street area at about 1935 GMT on Wednesday.

William Jackson said his family would not give in to intimidation.

"I would like to see the other side try to educate those throwing the petrol bombs. Protestant people up here just want to live," he said

It has emerged that the gang responsible for the attack has been captured on CCTV.

The police said they were examining the footage of the attack which involved more than 10 teenagers.

John Thompson, of the Protestant Interface Network said there had been 28 petrol bomb attacks on the estate over the past four weeks.

"It is a total and utter disgrace," he said.

"It is something that is ongoing and it is happening too often.

"The people in the Fountain are fed up of it and we think there is not enough response from the police."

The nationalist community has strongly condemned the targetting of the area.

A number of other devices were also thrown at the Masonic military base at about 2100 GMT.

No one was injured in either attack.

A police statement expressed disappointment at the attacks.

"In August we were delighted to report that sectarian incidents on the Fountain interface had fallen by 81% during the summer months," said the statement.

"We would appeal to the community representatives who helped achieve this result to redouble their efforts to prevent further attacks.

"We are examining CCTV footage of last nights attack and will bring anyone identified before the courts."

Meanwhile, a car has been destroyed and a second damaged in petrol bomb attack in County Antrim.
