A County Antrim-based construction firm has secured contracts worth almost 30m to fit out luxury apartments and townhouses in London.

Mivan is to fit out 650 bathrooms in 250 apartments for 14.5m in Knightsbridge, described by its developers as "the world's most desirable address".

The company will also start a 15m contract to fit luxury townhouses in Kensington.

The company has previously worked on contracts as diverse as a palace for Saddam Hussein, a hospital in the Gaza Strip and building an entire town in Thailand.

Chief executive Ivan McCabrey said the contract was a reflection of the skills of the company's Northern Ireland workforce.

"Despite the downturn in the global economy, London is still attracting international investors who want luxury accommodation in one of the world's greatest cities," he said.

Mivan was the biggest general contractor at Disneyland Paris and has also worked on a new theme park for Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Last year, it was awarded a multi-million pound contract to fit out the Scottish parliament.
