The tourists were attacked outside this restaurant in south Belfast

The incident happened outside a Chinese restaurant in the Donegall Pass area of south Belfast.

The police were called to the scene and were engaged in a short stand off with a small crowd.

The group of tourists said bottles and stones were thrown.

The police said they were not ruling out a racial motive but have described the incident as "minor".

One youth was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage but was later released.

Ivan Broadbent, from London, who was part of the group, said the attack was unprovoked.

"The abuse just started with bottles being thrown and stones begin thrown," he said.

"They came to us, we didn't even say anything, we didn't even retaliate.
