Oyster world record smashed
Oysters
Rune Naeri ate 187 oysters in three minutes
A Norwegian man has eaten 187 oysters in three minutes to smash the world record in County Down.

Rune Naeri had to swallow more than one per second at the annual Hillsborough Oyster Festival on Saturday.

Guinness Book of Records officials were in attendance to authenticate Mr Naeri's feat - the existing world record was 97.

Belfast man Jim Glackin beat the previous world best earlier this week by eating 100 oysters, but this was only during an unofficial practice run and he couldn't manage to keep up in the official attempt.

He wolfed down 168 oysters in the international competition, but only came in fourth when it came to the crunch.

Afterwards, the victorious Mr Naeri washed down his record-breaking meal with a few pints of stout.

He said he felt "wonderful" and was already planning what to have for his dinner.

"I think I'll probably have something fishy," he said.
