Pensioner fights off intruders
A 70-year-old woman has fought off intruders who tried to get into her home in east Belfast.

The woman and her 99-year-old mother were confronted by two men at their house in Westcott Street at about 2030 BST on Wednesday.

The daughter managed to fight off the intruders and force them out of their house before calling the police.

Neither of the women were harmed. The thieves made off empty handed.

A police spokesman said the women were lucky to escape injury.

One of the intruders is described as being in his late teens, of a stocky build and was wearing a blue coloured shirt.

The other man had dark, thinning hair and a moustache and was wearing a light coloured top.

Anyone who witnessed two men acting suspiciously in an alleyway at the rear of Westcott Street is asked to contact police at Strandtown.
