Seaside train service cancelled
Previous attacks on trains have been blamed for the cancellations
All train and bus services to one of Northern Ireland's most popular seaside resorts have been cancelled over the Easter bank holiday weekend due to the fear of violence.

Translink say there will be no rail services on the Londonderry line to Portrush on Easter Monday.

The Ulsterbus service from Belfast to Portrush will stop at Ballymena and will not serve Ballymoney, Coleraine or Portrush.

Translink took the decision to cancel the services following assaults and vandalism on trains and buses in previous years.

Last year, trains were withdrawn after staff and passengers were subjected to abuse.

Extensive damage was also caused to carriages.

Translink spokesperson Ciaran Rogan says the decision was taken after a risk assessment was carried out.

"This is a decision that we have taken reluctantly," he said.

"We are in the business of running trains and buses and filling them with people

"However, there has been a long history of public order problems and of vandalism and violence on the trains travelling to and from Portrush on Easter Monday.

"We are not in a position to run train services or bus services to Portrush."

Train and bus services for the rest of the Easter period are unaffected.
