An arson attack which badly damaged an Orange Order hall in County Armagh has been condemned. The hall, at Causanagh Road near Loughgall, was badly damaged by a fire on Sunday.
Fire crews attended the scene after the alarm was raised at about 1030 BST.
Bibles and photographs were destroyed.
Orange Order grand secretary and County Armagh grand master Denis Watson, said the attack had been despicable and one against the local community.
"Those people who perpetrate such pointless and divisive actions don't want people to move forward in a new era of tolerance and respect for each other.
"They prefer to continue to polarise the local community when they cannot even respect the Orange brethren and the tradition they hold dear."
This is the work of mindless bigots Danny Kennedy Ulster Unionist MLA |
Ulster Unionist Assembly member Danny Kennedy said it was a cowardly attack. "It's absolutely sickening. This is the work of mindless bigots.
"There is no future in attacks of this nature on Orange halls or any similar property," he said.
Senior lodge member William Anderson said they were determined to rebuild the hall.
"I've had lots of phone calls from all levels of Orangeism and throughout all the loyal orders, giving us their support.
"No doubt, they will be working with us in the weeks and months ahead to ensure that this hall is rebuilt," he said.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
